Jessica A. Moore’s Legacy and Jessica’s Dream Fund

Jessica A. Moore co-founded the foundation to help individuals who took non-traditional educational paths achieve their degrees and personal goals. Though her life was tragically cut short, the foundation continues her mission in Virginia and plans to expand to new regions soon.

Jessica’s career goal was to become a Psychologist specializing in the treatment of military personnel with PTSD and TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury). To honor her vision, the District 19 Community Services Board (D19CSB) created “Jessica’s Dream Fund.”

Drop Out to Degree program was founded in June 2010 by Dr. Phyllis Moore-Tolliver and co-founder Jessica A. Moore.

MISSION

The mission of the Drop Out to Degree Program is to provide services that define a path to success for those who departed from established paths of education and foster the next generation of leaders through a continuously evolving cutting-edge program in the community.

The vision of the Drop Out to Degree Program is to become known as the education benchmark program in providing a unique functional service tailored to the needs of the individual.  Each client will experience an outward and inward journey in their growth as emerging graduates and educated members of our community.  Our clients will be recognized as visionary and strategic-minded graduates – prepared to provide versatile leadership through inevitable and perpetual change.

The Day She Left

Jessica Ann Moore, co-founder of Drop Out to Degree Program and an honors student at Seton Hall University majoring in Psychology was tragically shot and later died of her injuries on September 25, 2010 as she attended a fraternity party.  A senseless crime took our angel home too soon.  This tragedy has affected people all across the country and inspired many to action.

Jessica, a loving, sweet, and caring person that was always willing to help her fellow man performed a heroic action that night.

An altercation occurred with a man that was not admitted to the fraternity party that she was attending.  Within minutes the man returned, kicked in the door and began firing a gun.  Jessica’s friend was shot in the face.  Jessica in a heroic fashion attempted to shield her friend from further injury and was shot in the back of the head as a result.  Jessica died from her injuries at 3:20 pm on September 25, 2010.

Jessica was an aspiring singer.  She had recorded two singles and was scheduled to audition at the Apollo Theater in New York on October 3, 2010.  She was in the process of pursuing a promising musical career.

Jessica’s professional goal was to become a Therapist specializing in helping men and women in the military who were suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).  Jessica never got to realize her goals because her life was cut short by a senseless crime.

Jessica’s body was taken from this earth but not her spirit.  Family and friends have promised to continue Jessica’s goals with the Drop Out to Degree program and spread the love of one another that Jessica lived by each day of her life.
